Taxable Fixed Income

Quality High Yield

Focusing on high quality standards and overlooked issues.

We believe that Fixed Income portfolios should be high quality and tailored to meet the liquidity, income and capital preservation needs of each of our clients.

Investment Philosophy

We seek to take advantage of inefficiencies in the fixed income market by identifying overlooked issues that offer a measurable return advantage and meet our high quality standards, generally leading to an emphasis on BB rated bonds. Our focus is on fundamental analysis and disciplined risk controls rather than market timing. Our consistent process seeks to perform well in all periods with an emphasis on downside protection.

Strategy Description

The strategy seeks to achieve a long-term total rate of return consistent with preservation of capital. We focus on bonds rated BB as we believe they can deliver higher return with less default risk than lower-rated bonds. In addition, our credit research and stress testing of issuers are designed to help preserve capital during volatile or down markets relative to the overall high yield market. We integrate Environmental, Social and Governance factors into our fundamental research process.

Approach

Focus on Quality

We define quality independent of the rating agencies by subjecting each issuer to in-depth stress testing – how have these companies navigated historical downturns in the business and could it be different in the future?

Emphasis on Downside Protection

Our consistent process seeks to perform well in all periods with an emphasis on downside protection as evidenced by performance in past high yield drawdowns.

Taking Advantage of Inefficiencies

We seek to take advantage of inefficiencies created by small issue sizes and rating agency classifications.

Bottom-up Approach

We use bottom-up bond selection and a quality focus to create a portfolio that may differ significantly from our competitors and the benchmark.
